In the midst of heated debate, there is often little room for conversation. The Kalamazoo Conversation Project is designed to provide a space for those on all sides of Ordinance 1856 to talk one-on-one in a respectful manner. In conversation, neighbors can discuss our
hopes, concerns, and values in an attempt to understand and persuade one another with reasons and stories of life experiences.
We are providing an opportunity for Kalamazoo voters to sit down with those whom they disagree and talk one-on-one. We will employ guidelines and carefully constructed questions designed to further civil and meaningful dialogue. Resource people will be available to bridge impasses or to maintain order if needed. The goal of the evening is to better understand each other’s perspectives, and in the process, to better understand our own. We recognize that those we may differ with are also our neighbors, and want to allow for genuine disagreement while maintaining relationship with those in our community.
